Watson Industries Inc. was founded in 1981 to exploit the US patent granted to Bill Watson for his innovative approach to measuring angular rates within an inertial frame. Watson Inc. has the proud claim to be the company that first realised a commercially producible solid-state gyro. Since then it has produced over 13,000 of its vibrating beam gyros which have been used on a wide range of commercial and military projects, including space missions and a visit to the Titanic.

Watson Industries Ltd was founded in 1993 to provide sales and service-support within Europe for products manufactured by Watson Industries Inc. Since then Watson Industries Ltd has developed as a manufacturer of Watson's designs aimed at satisfying EU directives. It has its own R&D capability and provides custom-engineered solutions to meet the special needs of its European customers.
